What I Meant...
by Marie Lamba

What I Meant... is the story of Sangeet (Sang) Junmal who goes from the perfect daughter, perfect sister, and perfect friend to no longer perfect. What brings this about? Her sneaky chachi (aunt) who has come to stay temporarily and to wreak havoc on the once happy family. Sang seems to be fighting a losing battle proving she‘s honest, she is not bulimic, she’s not a thief, and she’s old enough to date. Her father says she can date when she is 16. What makes matters worse, she finds out her mom started dating at 13! The boy she adores, Jason, doesn’t think she likes him. Her best friend/personal advisor Gina, has abruptly stopped talking to her. And her brother, Hari, is never on IM and never returns her e-mails. What is a 15 year old to do? At her late chacha’s (uncle) kirtan, Sang finally takes matters into her own hands.

Marie Lamba’s phenomenal debut What I Meant... will have you captivated with its drama, touches of Indian culture, and the trials and tribulations of a biracial teenage girl. This YA novel is definitely for all ages.
